Entering Your Birth Details and Reading Your Free Result
To calculate your Chiron placement, enter your birth date, birth city, and—if you have it—your recorded birth time:
- Birth date and city: Used to identify the historical time zone offset in effect at your birthplace and convert your local birth record to UTC. You cannot find a reliable Chiron placement from a name or Sun sign alone.
- Known birth time: Calculates Chiron's zodiac sign, degree, and Placidus house placement where supported by your birth latitude, along with your full natal chart.
- Unknown birth time: If you select the unknown-time option, the calculator checks across the full local birth date to see whether Chiron remained in one zodiac sign or crossed a sign boundary during those 24 hours, and uses 12:00 local time only as a marked reference assumption. It hides the Ascendant, Midheaven, houses, exact degrees, and aspects so a timeless chart is never presented as a timed reading.
For example, in a hypothetical birth record for someone born on June 15, 1990, at 14:20 in Chicago, the tool resolves Central Daylight Time, computes the tropical geocentric position of Chiron, shows the short placement summary first, and then highlights Chiron inside the full birth chart and placement table. Guest results are kept on our server for 7 days, open only in your original browser, and do not create public share links, while signing in lets you save your chart to your account or edit your birth details later for free.
What Chiron Is and How It Appears in a Chart
In astronomy, 2060 Chiron (also designated 95P/Chiron) is a small Solar System body classified as both a minor planet and a comet. Named after the centaur Chiron in Greek mythology, it was the first identified member of the centaur class of objects orbiting between the outer planets. Its orbit is highly eccentric (0.37), with perihelion just inside the orbit of Saturn and aphelion just outside the perihelion of Uranus, and observations in the 2010s and early 2020s revealed that it hosts rings. In astrology, Chiron is commonly marked by the key-like symbol ⚷, devised by Al H. Morrison as an OK monogram for Object Kowal.
In a birth chart, a Chiron placement records the zodiac sign—and, when a verified birth time is available, the astrological house—where Chiron appeared from Earth at the moment you were born. Because Chiron takes decades to complete an orbit and follows an eccentric path, it stays in a single zodiac sign much longer than the Sun, which changes signs roughly every month. As a result, a Chiron sign is shared across multi-year birth cohorts, whereas house placement depends on Earth's daily rotation at your birth time and city.
In Greek mythology, Chiron was described as the wisest and justest of the centaurs—a respected teacher, astrologer, oracle, and healer trained in medicine and herbs who could not cure his own poison-arrow wound and ultimately relinquished his immortality in exchange for Prometheus's release. Astrological tradition draws on that mythological figure symbolically. Astrology is an interpretive tradition, not a scientifically validated method, and controlled tests have not confirmed natal astrology's claims. Symbolic Chiron descriptions are offered for personal reflection, never as medical or psychological diagnoses or promises to heal trauma. You can read more background in our Chiron guide or inspect the rest of your placements in the birth chart calculator.
Calculation Method, Supported Range, and Unknown Birth Time
The calculator computes tropical, geocentric coordinates from your resolved historical time zone and UTC birth moment within the supported ephemeris range 1900–2100. Major planetary positions in our chart engine use Skyfield with the JPL DE440s ephemeris, the Placidus house system, and the five major aspects (conjunction, opposition, trine, square, and sextile) with a 6° orb when birth time is known.
Time inputs and geographical edge cases are handled explicitly:
- Ambiguous or skipped daylight saving times: If a local clock time occurred twice during a fall-back transition or was skipped during a spring-forward transition, the form prompts you to confirm the offset rather than guessing silently.
- High-latitude births: Above about 66° northern or southern latitude, where Placidus houses are undefined, Astrolivo shows the houses in the Whole Sign system with a visible label.
- Dates outside 1900–2100: If a birth date falls outside the supported Chiron ephemeris range, the tool returns a clear range notice instead of estimating a position.
- Unknown birth time: A noon timestamp does not guarantee a zodiac sign on days when a body crosses a sign boundary. The calculator checks the full local day for sign changes and hides angles, houses, degrees, and aspects whenever birth time is omitted.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Chiron placement?
Your Chiron placement is the zodiac sign—and, when calculated with a known birth time, the astrological house—occupied by 2060 Chiron from Earth's perspective at the moment you were born.
How is Chiron in a sign different from Chiron in a house?
Chiron's sign reflects its position along the tropical ecliptic and moves slowly enough that people born in the same period often share the same sign. Chiron's house shows which sky sector it occupied relative to your local horizon at birth, which requires an accurate birth time and birthplace.
Do I need my birth time to calculate Chiron?
No. You can select the unknown-time option. The calculator checks your full local birth date to see whether Chiron stayed in one sign or crossed between two signs during the day, uses 12:00 local time as a marked assumption, and hides house placement, angles, exact degrees, and aspects.
How does my Chiron sign differ from my Sun sign?
Your Sun sign reflects Earth's annual orbit and changes roughly once a month, repeating on a similar calendar schedule each year. Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus on a much longer, highly eccentric path, so its sign placement spans much longer periods and does not repeat on an annual calendar date.
What is free, and why would I sign in?
Calculating your Chiron placement, reading the concise explanation, and viewing your full available birth chart and table with Chiron highlighted are completely free without registration.
